Medicamen Sanctimonialis is a 3D render and custom frame (18"x24") with 3D printed embellishments, gilded with gold leaf. The clash of imagery in Medicamen Sanctimonialis reflects the historic, and often forgotten, connection between medicine and spirituality. While now often considered to be opposites, the position of spiritual and physical healer were, for most of human history, synonymous. Holistic wellness has started to become embraced by the medical community, but I know from experience that anti-depressants and other psychiatric medication alone cannot heal an ill mind.
All of the models used in Medicamen are accurate recreations of real, found objects, blurring not only the medical and spiritual, but physical and virtual. The motifs in Medicamen Sanctimonialis, including a possum jaw bone, can be seen echoed in the embellishments of its one-of-a-kind frame.
