The frame for Medicamen Sanctimonialis was made by first 3D modeling the embellishments (8 in total, one on each side and each corner). Those 3D models were then rapid prototyped on a 3D printer in PLA and smoothed with a coating of epoxy. After being affixed to a pre-made simple wood frame, the embellishments and frame alike were covered in gold leaf in a process not dissimilar from the way gilded frames were produced hundreds of years ago- the only key difference being the embellishments are 3D printed plastic instead of hand-carved wood.
